Ron Higgins is in his third season as an assistant with the Gators’ basketball program, as he assists with all aspects of the program’s day-to-day operations.
Before coming to Meadville, Higgins spent three seasons on the staff of Alfred University. In 2011, he was part of a staff that led the Saxons to the ECAC Upstate Championship Final.
Higgins made the trek to Alfred after spending the previous two seasons as the graduate assistant at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. During his first season on staff at his alma mater, Heidelberg finished 23-6, won the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
A 2007 graduate of Heidelberg, Higgins was a four-year letterwinner and standout player for the Student Princes. He was a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) selection as well as an Academic All-Conference honoree in 2006. Currently in the top 20 on the Heidelberg’s all-time scoring list, Higgins was the 24th player in the history of the program to record 1,000 points.
Higgins is a native of Lorain, Ohio, and attended Firelands High School where he earned All-Ohio, All-District, and All-County Honors. He currently resides in Meadville, Pa.
