Former University of Akron standout Kara Murphy is in her third year as an assistant coach at Walsh, and her second year on the staff of Maria Marchesano.

Murphy finished her Akron career as the school’s all-time scoring leader with 1,777 points and started 123 consecutive games. She holds the program marks for scoring in a season (580), free throws in a season (166), free throws in a career (480), and is third in career three-pointers (127). She also finished her career ninth in career rebounds (630). Murphy earned All-Mid-American Conference honors in each of her four years, including first-team and All-MAC Tournament accolades in 2009-10.

She prepped at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and graduated in 2007 and served as an assistant at her alma mater in 2011.

In January 2011, she signed a professional contract with Umea Comets of the Swedish Damligan – the most competitive women’s league in Sweden.

Murphy earned her undergraduate degree from Akron in 2011 in child and family development. She resides with her husband in Akron.
